Peek inside this charming cottage full of DIY projects and budget decor

If you were taking a stroll in this neighborhood, you'd definitely stop and notice this adorable house with the bright yellow door. Shauna Mailloux, creator of the blog Beautiful Matters, bought the North Carolina house with her husband and went to work fixing it up.
Like most first-time homeowners, the couple was on a tight budget. But with some DIY projects, elbow grease, and creativity, they renovated the entire house. The result is a bright and cheerful home with eclectic style. Take a peek inside with the full photo tour below!
Shauna said she wanted this room to be a fun and cozy space for watching TV and hanging out with friends. The gallery wall of frames helps to blend the TV into the decor.
The larger pieces, including the furniture and rug, are all neutral - but color and interest were brought in with accessories and art.
The bedroom was put together with second-hand purchases and wedding photos used as artwork. The curtains were actually made from bed sheets!
The couple replaced the old vanity with a re-purposed metal cabinet. Baskets were added for storage. An oval mirror and abstract art finish the look.
What was once a junk room was eventually transformed into a beautiful office and craft space. The desk was custom built using thrift store filing cabinet bases.
The entire kitchen was remodeled for only $500! Shauna and her husband did all the work themselves including ripping out the old linoleum, refinishing the original pine subfloor, and painting the cabinets.
Just off of the kitchen is the dining space. A jute rug anchors the space, while the blue chairs and colorful wall accessories add a bit of fun.
Can you believe all the storage containers in the laundry room are actually from the dollar store? The matching yellow baskets add playfulness and organization.
This cottage is proof that you don't need a big budget to make a beautiful home. Be sure to share this DIY inspiration on Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest.
