Tour a cozy, nature-inspired cottage full of whimsy – the living room is a charmer

This sweet and whimsical cottage nestled in the woods of a New Hampshire forest is the home of artist Lauren Decatur. Photographer Rikki Snyder visited the artist in her home and documented her beautiful space. The influence of nature shines through in each room.
The cottage is 850 square feet and consists of one bedroom and one bathroom, plus a living space and kitchen. Unique artwork is abundant in each space, some of it Decatur's own work - making for an inspiring sanctuary where creativity thrives.

The living room is the epitome of coziness with a stone fireplace, overstuffed furniture, and plush rugs. A gallery wall of animal heads and bird eggs adorn the wall. Try displaying artwork as a collection of similar pieces for a cohesive yet varied look.
The opposite side of the living room steps up to a landing full of books and more of Decatur's collections. The soothing green walls mimic the trees and greenery that surround the property.
The kitchen has a farmhouse-influenced style with crisp white cabinetry, open shelving, and an eat-in dining area. Bright natural light helps the small kitchen feel open and airy.
Decatur's hand-felted animals can be found throughout her home, adding whimsy and character to each space. Open shelving in a kitchen is a great opportunity to display beautiful and unique china, as shown here.
The bedroom is painted a relaxing mint green and features more of Decatur's own artwork. A fluffy white comforter and other mismatched bedding creates a comfy and inviting space.
A painting space is set up in the living room displaying whatever pieces are currently in progress. The windows let in the necessary natural light and allow Decatur to view the wildlife outside as she works.

The charming bathroom features green wainscoting and an antique claw foot tub. A white shower curtain and white towels add a luxurious element to the room.
