This double wide mobile home has had a stunning modern transformation

Kim Thompson loved the location of her double-wide premanufactured home within an hour of San Francisco in the heart of Napa Valley. The outdated kitchen and bathrooms, brown berber carpet and popcorn ceilings that needed a major makeover were another story.
Becaue of the nature of a mobile home, the Thompsons had to work within the original layout — no moving interior walls. Instead, they focused on upscale finishes and mid-century modern style for a home that offers every luxury in 1,288 square feet.

Odd ledges, outdated appliances and linoleum were the first to go in the kitchen, as carpet was ripped up in the living spaces and replaced with natural cork. Although they didn't move any interior walls, they took out upper cabinetry above the island to create more open space between the kitchen and living area.
Subtle graphic throw rugs soften natural cork flooring in the living room, which features mid-century modern seating and tables. Green basket-weave lamps lend a pop of color on either side of the entertainment unit. Beyond, a sleek leather chair and bookshelves create a cozy reading nook.
Sleek IKEA white kitchen cabinets and minimal hardware totally transform the kitchen. Doeskin Corian countertops sport a luxurious concrete look without the price tag of granite or marble. A beige subway tile backsplash lends a soft accent. Beyond the kitchen, a stacked washer and dryer offer easy access for luandry.
Next to the living area, a minimal dining table seats four. An IKEA industrial-style sconce anchors the space above a graphic throw rug.
Kim chose the deepest noncustom tub she could find for the guest bathroom and splurged on subway tile for the enclosure. New toilets were an unglamorous but appreciated upgrade. A modern vanity, faucet and mirror from IKEA complete the look.
A patchwork cowhide rug anchors the master bedroom. The couple doesn't hang anything over the bed because of the area's potential for earthquakes, so Kim decorated the headboard with a screen from her mother. Across from the bed, a minimal Ikea storage unit holds clothes and shoes.
In the master bathroom, a solar tube illuminates the glass-enclosed shower. Sleek white subway tile surrounds the space, complete with a built-in bench. A tall mirrored cabinet and fixtures from IKEA fit well into the space.

A small spare bedroom features a minimal like-oak bed and matching nightstands. A graphic print lends a pop of design, as do colorful geometric throw pillows.

A large storage console feels like a built-in unit in the office. Next to the cubbies, a contemporary lavender desk makes for a chic workspace. Off to the right, a small deck leads to the backyard.
